  • 1.  For those AAs that issue newsletters

    Posted 05-02-2025 17:17

Our association hasn't issued a newsletter in years, so we are planning to start offering that resource again.

If you are able, I was hoping you might be willing to share a bit about your experience. Any guidance or insight you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

    Specifically, I'm interested in learning:
    - What types of content have been most engaging or well-received?
    - What platform or tools do you use for creating and distributing your newsletter?
    - How frequently do you send out your newsletter?
    - Any lessons learned or best practices you'd be willing to share?

Alternatively, are you able to provide the contact information for the designated person that can better answer these questions?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Angie, North Carolina Paralegal Association just published its first newsletter in about 4 years.  I believe it was done using Canva. It used to be done in a magazine format, but this was newsletter format. I have attached it here. In the past I think the biggest challenge was finding content. We have often reprinted interesting and relevant articles from Facts & Findings and our State Bar journal. Email info@ncparalegal.org and either Patti or Crystal can answer your questions in more detail.

    Hi Elizabeth,

Thanks for the information and sharing a copy of your association's newsletter. I looks really well done with just enough whimsy.

I will definitely be reaching out to Patti or Crystal to see if they have more tips and suggestions. Thanks again.

The Alabama Assoc of Paralegals offers a monthly newsletter that has updates about the organization and state of affairs and also highlights our sponsors. We also offer a quarterly newsletter that is more in-depth and offers more details on all sponsors, reports/updates by each board member, state of banking accounts, events, and some articles written by our members. We find that our members really like the transparency our newsletters bring to them so they are constantly in the loop on what’s going on behind the scenes as well as out front.

Thanks for your feedback. The monthly with quarterly updates is a good idea for transparency. I also like that your members submit articles. Thanks so much for sharing.

    Hi Angie -

I'm not sure anyone mentioned this, but you can also go to NALA's website and click on the Affiliates Tab at the top right.  There you can scroll down and see many affiliates' newsletters with lots of information and ideas!  My affiliate - Central Florida Paralegal Association, produces a monthly newsletter and you should be able to find our newsletters under this tab as well.  :-)

    Hi Angie,

Our association, Western Dakota Association of Legal Assistants, publishes four newsletters a year (February, May, August, and November).  We use Canva to create the newsletter and then sent it to our members via PDF.  Some of the content in our newsletter includes:

    • 4-5 substantive articles published in each issue which are written by judges, attorneys, paralegals, and others on the subjects of substantive legal issues, court rules, current trends and recent developments, leadership, professional development, career development, mentoring, or articles of general interest to paralegals/legal assistants.
    • A message from our President
    • Member and/or volunteer spotlights
    • Highlight any new members that join
    • Reports from the officers/board of directors (giving updates to our members)
    • If we have any special events happening that quarter, we include information and photos on that
    • List of our sponsors
    • Members' birthdays for the quarter

If you want to check out our newsletters, you can find them on NALA's website:  click on the Affiliates tabs and then NALA Affiliated Association Newsletters.  I hope this helps!
