Description: The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) gives parents the right to access their child’s records and governs disclosure of those records, including to parents’ counsel. FERPA establishes strict requirements to protect the privacy of students and their families. When the school district receives a letter of representation and release of records request from parents’ counsel, it has 45 days to provide the records. This session will cover best practices for obtaining, reviewing, redacting, and producing the records. It will offer actionable insights into navigating FERPA requirements and managing educational records requests with confidence and efficiency while ensuring compliance.
